At last, summer camp has come to an end! It has been a long 3 weeks and a lot of work but now that it is all said and done it was really enjoyable and most importantly I think the kids all had a really good time and hopefully learned some English along the way! The 1st and 2nd graders were by far the toughest as they hardly knew ANY English. Children start learning English in public schools in 3rd grade so unless their parents have been sending them to a private school after school known as a "Hagwon" they hardly knew "hello". It was a challenge for me to create appropriate materials for these children. The first 2-3 days were tough and did not go as planned but once I realized that I have to keep in mind they know "nothing" days 4 and 5 went smoothly! Winter camp will be much better! We covered the ABC's, body parts, colors and animals.
I think it is so cute to see them write, they try so hard to get the letters right!
The girls! Jessica, Julie, Victoria, Alice, Lucy and Diana.
Blake! This boy melted my heart. Everything would make him so excited and his little legs would just kick back and forth in his chair and he would rub his hands together! I always tell Justin that my favorite part of teaching elementary school is when the children's legs dangle because they can't touch the floor. For some reason I think it is the cutest thing!
Jessica!
James, Jacob and Jack! I think Jacob was the only one who had a clue what I said when I said "smile".
Diana! I was cracking up when she picked that name, not sure why! Seems sort of dated for such a cute thing!
Hunter and Jessica!
For the last day I wanted to do something fun with the children but thought the egg drop seemed a little out of their league so instead we made edible animal snacks. I bought all sorts of shapes of crackers and candies and they used cream cheese as glue. I had them make a drawing of the animal they were going to create before hand and tell me the name of the animal in English before they started! They had a hay day!
Ryan and his dog!
James and his mother and baby mouse.
Hard at work!
Lucy and her assortment of animals.
Jacob and his elephant!
