Living situation

When we arrived in Korea we were prepared to have separate housing. We were told that unless you are married you were not able to live together as Korea is a conservative country. Much to our surprise when we arrived in at Jeonju University they let us room together so we were thinking wow, we are off to a good start as we were expecting to split up the first day. Then a few days later I received an email from Violet who was the native English teacher at my school last year. She informed me that I was at an elementary school and that Justin and I had an apartment together. I was thrilled but was trying to reserve my excitement until we actually saw the apartment. Violet was right!

When we arrived at our apartment it was an absolute mess! I could not believe my eyes really, I am use to moving in to fairly clean apartments as it is expected the previous tenet will clean before their departure. That is not how they do it in Korea; you leave the old place a mess expecting to have to clean your new place. I guess this kind of makes sense but did not make us happy. We spent the first weekend totally cleaning the place and even painting! There was not a wall that was not covered in wallpaper, but some of the wallpaper was terribly dirty so we decided to slap a coat of paint up. Not even a week later we were told we were moving! My response “WHAT??? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING”. We were told over and over that Korea is DYNAMIC but were wondering what that really meant? Well, we got a real good sense of it within the first week. We had gotten all settled and the place was sparkling, not to mention the best part of the apartment was the view of Dadaepo Beach and we were moving! UGGG! Turns out we love our new temp. home and I like the wallpaper patterns better in #2.
