Donsol, Philippines

We stayed two nights in Donsol at AguLuz Homestay. It really was a home away from home. Marilyn, the owner is so sweet and made us delicious home cooked Filipino meals. They all were heavenly! Moments after we arrived the first day, she made us baby back pork ribs and stir-fried veggies, I will just say that we inhaled it! For breakfast she made omelets and toast with pineapple jam. We also tried sting ray in coconut milk, fresh crab and adoba chicken with potatoes. It was fun getting to know about her and her family. Her sister in-law was helping out and she was a darling little thing. She tried really hard to talk to us in English but it was a bit hard to understand and we only caught about every 9th word. Regardless, she put a smile on my face. In the morning she would knock on our door and say "Good morning, breakfast is ready".
Our pink room!
I just love all the colors in tropical places.
Tricycle, we squeezed into many of these! ;) Most common way to get around.
AguLuz's Homestay. She had a lovely home that her son designed. Also, her daughter lives with her with her two grandkids. They were both darling, especially the 8 month old little boy!

Kids playing in an old truck.
Fishing boys! The little boy in the back had caught two fish and was trying to put them out of their misery by pinching their gills.
We ran into some boys fishing. They were so clever, catching snails and pulling them out of their shell for bait. They made their fishing poles and were so pleased with themselves when they would catch a little something!
80% of the population in the Philippines is Catholic so there are lots of churches! Here is an outdoor church in Donsol. You can see the village behind.
The kids were busy rolling tires up and down the streets. Even though it seems a bit rough to us, these kids seem so happy and really use their imaginations to keep busy. I think that is a lot better than sitting in the pc room playing video games.
The kids in Donsol just loved getting their picture taken. They would come up to us saying "Picture, Picture" and do all sorts of poses for us. Really cute and friendly kids. They boys would say to Justin "Hey man".

Even though it rained almost the entire time, we had a great time in Donsol and the whale sharks were more than amazing to see! Stay tuned for whale shark footage!
