EPIK occasionally plans culture tours that we can participate in. These tours are a great way to see parts of Korea outside of the main tourist destinations. We took a 2 hour bus ride to Gyeongsangbuk-do to Goryeong County.
Every city in Korea has a funny little mascot. This is the mascot of Goryeong "Daegaya" County.
The first stop was the Daegaya Museum. These clothes are the traditional clothes of the Daegaya dynasty.
Ureuk, the great master of music, invented the Gayageum.
Up on the hill are the ancient tombs of Jisan-dong. There are about 200 big and small ancient tombs.
Inside the museum you could see how they were buried and the things they were buried with.
We also visited the Daegaya History theme tourist resort. This resort was built to show the Daegaya history with the glorious civilization of earthenware, ironware and Gayageum.
Justin was selected out of the crowd to participate in the show.
We watched a 4D movie about Daegaya that put me right to sleep. Something about a moving chair and dark glasses that did me in! ;)
Our last stop was the Gaesil Village. It is a traditional Korean village.
The highlight of the trip was taking a ride on this bamboo raft. Some how we made it without sinking or getting attacked by Korean children! Some were not as lucky!
They were some of those who were not quite so lucky!
Towards the end our bus driver was getting a bit rough and I think impatient. Korean has some funky rode rules, one of the being able to make a u-turn on a highway by pulling into the median area. Well that is what we did but and sadly for this car is what he was doing as well. Our bus just took the turn a little too hard and this fellow lost his bumper!
This actually might have been the most exciting thing on the whole trip!
I enjoyed your picture tours.
